The Meraki MS390 GbE switch is built for demanding enterprise uses. It has the famous simplicity of the Meraki dashboard, along with some seriously powerful switching hardware. It’s perfect for high-bandwidth applications as well as for high-speed Wi-Fi 6 access points. The Meraki MS390 provides multigigabit ports, 480G stacking, and modular 10/40G uplinks, as well.
If you were wondering, StackPower provides simple and resilient power distribution across the stack by pooling & distributing power using a series of proprietary StackPower cables.
Super-easy setup
We’ll talk about setup first. Meraki MS switches are wonderful at allowing a network admin to configure a VPN mesh network without having to have highly specialized knowledge. Unlike Cisco switches, there is no CLI, there is only a GUI. Also, Meraki support helps you set it up as you add nodes to your network. Meraki MS switches are amazingly easy to deploy, and amazingly easy to manage. Period.
As a matter of fact, this is true everything Meraki makes. They do it better than pretty much anybody else.
Zero-touch provisioning means that Meraki is brilliant for companies with limited IT teams or IT agencies looking to reduce site calls.
How does it work?
Install your Meraki at the head office or a remote branch. Meraki devices utomatically connect to the cloud using SSL encryption. They register on your network and download the configuration. Then, your company receives full vizualisation and control of the network through an Internet browser.
Couldn’t be easier.
The famous Meraki GUI
And the Meraki user interface is gloriously clean and easy to navigate. Every Meraki product is cloud-managed, and lives in the same place in the Meraki interface. Your switch, access point, and firewall will all know each other. They can work with other vendor’s appliances, but they work best with other Merakis.
The GUI is online, as mentioned. You can reach it from anywhere, as long as you have the credentials. So, you can manage the network from any device that has a browser. Meraki MS Series switches also easily stack. It’s all done for you in the Meraki cloud control panel.
Plus, your Meraki MS Series switch will get an address from your admin VLAN’s DHCP scope and keep it. Even if you unplug it and move it, you will not have to worry about addressing it. Sort of cool.
Security
The Meraki MS390 GbE switch provides Adaptive Policy using an over-the-wire tag. It segments traffic into Security Groups to deliver scalable security.
These Security Groups are created in the dashboard using natural language such as “IOT device” & “Guest.” The security policy intent (e.g., Permit or Deny) is then simply provisioned between Security Groups. This results in the segmentation of each group’s traffic. By making security policy management intuitive and scalable (relative to legacy IP-address based Access Control Lists), Adaptive Policy means you can confidently secure network traffic independent of future network changes.
Meraki MS390 Specs
The Meraki MS390 is a full-on enterprise, stacking Layer 3 switch. It comes with either 24 or 48 1GbE RJ45 ports, respectively. The exceptions are the MS390-24UX, which has 24 x 100M/1G/2.5G/5G/10G RJ45, the MS390-48UX, with 36 x 100M/1G/2.5G and 12 x 100M/1G/2.5G/5G/10G, and the MS390-48UX2. It has 48 x 100M/1G/2.5G/5G ports. They all support and dynamic power allocation for powering APs, phones, cameras, and other PoE-enabled devices. All except the MS390-24-HW and the MS390-48-HW support either PoE or UPoE.
All MS390s reach 480 Gbps stacking bandwidth. The MS390-24-HW, MS390-24P-HW, and the MS390-24U-HW push 208 Gbps switching capacity. The MS390-24UX-HW and MS390-48UX-HW push 640 Gbps switching capacity. The MS390-48-HW reaches 256 Gbps, as does the MS390-48P-HW and the MS390-48U-HW. The reaches 580 Gbps. So there.
Of course, you can physically stack up to 8 switches with 480 Gbps of stacking bandwidth on all models. And virtual stacking supports thousands of switch ports in a single logical stack. This gives you unified management, monitoring, and configuration.
The Meraki MS390 GbE switch series is a high-performance L3 branch and campus line. It’s capable of higher capacity routing and stacking bandwidth than the lower-down models, such as the MS350 and MS250 series. For those deploying a wireless-led or wireless-first access model, the MS350 or MS390 are recommended.
