Extreme AP460C Outdoor Wi-Fi 6 access point review

The Extreme AP460C is a Tri-Radio, IP67 rated Outdoor access point. It has Wi-Fi 6 data rates of up to 4.8 Gbps. Like the AP510C/CX, supports dual 5 GHz operation. The AP460C also has a dedicated dual-band threat sensor. It is perfect for demanding industrial environments. The AP460C can support a high density of users and devices, while delivering an exceptional user experience nearly anywhere. In addition, multiple antenna models are available, including 360° (Omni), 120° and 60° options. The AP460C, a Tri Radio based on new radio technology, delivers 802.11ax and is designed for harsh environments. This means everything from from hurricane force winds to sub-zero temperature. The AP460C is IP67-outdoor rated. Obviously.

Advanced Tri-Radio Technology

The radio technology in the AP460C means that it’s available in 5 GHz 4×4:4, 2.4 GHz 2×2:2, Dual 5GHz and Sensor (2.4 GHz / 5 GHz) configurations.

Extreme’s Tri-Radio APs continue their tradition of software-selectable-radios capable of dual 5 GHz connectivity for harsh environments. The AP460C platforms are the first generation of APs to run multiple Extreme operating systems. They provide flexibility and choice of on-premise or cloud deployment. This is, according to Extreme, the industry’s first programmable tri-radio access point.

And another feature in common with the AP510 is its’ Adaptive RF management with AI/ML functionality. This provides intelligent selection of the best channels and transmit power for an optimal user experience.

The Extreme AP460C runs data rates of up to 4.8 Gbps currently in both the 5 GHz and 2.4 GHz bands. It supports a Software Selectable Radio, which enables you to operate both radios in the 5 GHz band at the same time. These software-defined dual 5 GHz radios monitor and adjust Wi-Fi performance. They can then achieve the highest levels of performance and network optimization in demanding environments.

Universal Hardware

Here’s something interesting. The AP460C, as a universal hardware platform, comes with a dual-persona capability. It allows users To choose the Wi-Fi operating system. Either the IQ Engine operating system or the WiNG OS persona can be enabled. Either persona can be selected at start-up or changed at a later stage.

And once selected, the AP460C assumes the features/capabilities of the selected OS. When first booted, the AP460C automatically connects to ExtremeCloud IQ to find its’ persona. The pre-provisioned OS persona is then remotely enabled on the AP460C system. This eliminates the need for manual selection. Pretty cool.

Security features

The Extreme AP460C provides context-based security and performance optimization. These technologies are perfect for multi-dwelling environments. It is accomplished through an on-board stateful L2-L7 DPI firewall, advanced and customizable Quality of Service for traffic optimization, encrypted client tunneling, and more.

Private Client Groups capability helps to microsegment multi-dwelling environments without complex Wi-Fi or VLAN setups. User, device, and application profiling at the edge of the network IDs and fine-tunes network access and performance. It does this based on role and privileges. This results in secure compliant, high-performance wireless.

And the AP460C includes the latest WPA3 Wi-Fi security standard with 192-bit encryption and delivering robust protections for users and IoT devices.

Summary

The AP460C delivers exceptional end-user experience. Even in dense user environments such as hospitals, large public venues, convention centers and school auditoriums.

It is easy to set up, easy to manage over large number of users, and tough to break in to. If you would like to know more about the Extreme AP460C Wi-Fi 6 access point, please email us or call Corporate Armor at 877-449-0458. Thanks for reading!
