The Aruba AP500H access point is a flat-out cost-effective 802.11ax device. Part of the 500 series along with the AP504, it’s a Gigabit ethernet access point that simultaneously serve multiple clients and traffic types in dense environments. And, it boosts overall network performance by up to 400% compared to 802.11ac APs.
The Aruba AP505 has 1 RJ-45 network port, a USB port, and a PoE PD port, as well.
Arubas give good return on investment generally, and the AP505 is no exception. The AP505 proves you don’t have to expect to pay a premium for Wi-Fi 6.
As with other Aruba APs. you cab run the AP505 one of two ways. Controller-based, or controlerless (Instant) mode.
When deployed with an Aruba Mobility Controller, the AP505 offers centralized configuration, data encryption, and policy enforcement. It will also give you network services and distributed and centralized traffic forwarding.
In controllerless (Instant) mode, the controller function is virtualized in a cluster of APs. As the network grows or requirements change, Instant deployments can easily migrate to controller-based mode.
Features
The Aruba AP505H features OFDMA, providing groundbreaking wireless capabilities for budget-conscious deployments. This allows the AP505 to handle multiple Wi-Fi 6 clients on each channel simultaneously. It doesn’t matter what device or traffic type. Channel use is optimized by handling each transaction via smaller sub-carriers or resource units. This means that clients are sharing a channel and not competing for airtime and bandwidth.
Aruba Air Slice™ for Extended Application Assurance is another cool feature. Initially, APs in controller-less mode can provide SLA-grade performance. How? By allocating radio resources, such as time, frequency, and spatial streams, to specific traffic types. By combining Aruba’s Policy Enforcement Firewall and Layer 7 deep packet inspection to identify user roles and applications, the APs will dynamically allocate the bandwidth needed. Non-Wi-Fi 6 clients can also benefit. Air Slice™ is managed in Aruba Central. Controller-based APs will be supported in the future.
Adaptive Radio Management
These include Aruba ClientMatch, AppRF, Clarity and AirMatch. They ensure the Aruba AP505 will have the best radio connection. At the same time, ARM provides control and visibility to the WLAN and applications dynamically. This is especially useful in changing environments.
Specs
The Aruba AP500H access point is a dual-radio, 2×2:2 MIMO indoor Wi-Fi 6 device. The 5GHz radio achieves up to 1.2 Gbps wireless data rate, and the 2.$GHz radio gets up to 287 Gbps. You can get up to 256 associated client devices per radio.
Differences between the AP504H and the AP505H
The differences between the Aruba AP504H and the Aruba AP505H is the antennas. The AP504 has two (female) RP-SMA connectors for external dual band antennas (A0 and A1, corresponding with radio chains 0 and 1). The AP505 has two integrated dual-band downtilt omni-directional antennas. They get 2×2 MIMO with peak antenna gain of 4.9dBi in 2.4GHz and 5.7dBi in 5GHz. Built-in antennas are optimized for horizontal ceiling mounted orientation. The downtilt angle for maximum gain is roughly 30 degrees.
What we like about the AP505H
It has great, easy-to-use technology, and has great range! It’s easy to set up multiple AP’s, including guest access. There is no dedicated controller needed. Simply power up, plug it into your network, and connect.
Even if you are not familiar with Aruba products, they are easy to master quickly. And if you need to reconfigure, using Instant Mode makes configuration straightforward.
Initial config is a snap. And with the aforementioned ARM technology, you can automatically assign channel and power settings. You can also provide airtime fairness and ensure that APs stay clear of all sources of RF interference. This will ensure reliable, high performance WLANs.
Summary
The Aruba AP 500 series is very well suited for organizations that need a large number of wireless access points and need simple intuitive management over them. And when it comes to Wi-Fi management, Aruba gives you the flexibility to choose. You can use an Instant access point or a controller to manage an entire cluster of access points. On the other hand, you can manage them with a cloud-based or an on-site network management platform.
Aruba also has plenty of switches to integrate with your access point for ease-of-access and peace of mind. The Aruba AP505H access point delivers superb user experience for medium-to-high density environments.
